I rated this only a 4 as the food was a little salty. The pizza was delicious but seemed to have more of a salty taste. We had extra cheese, pepperoni, sausage so they may have been the reason. However the sauce and crust were perfection. The cheese curds and French fries had more of a salty taste as well. (I'm not a person who is afraid to salt my food either. ) Katelyn was our waitress and she was AMAZING! we never had to want for anything. She was making sure our table of 5 was always taken care of. She was very personable too. She even made things right for a misunderstanding between the two of us. I commended her on her service and being so attentive. Sandwiches were delicious as well. We will be back as their are other options for meals we would like to try.
Overview
Walking into City Grille - Mansfield, Oh feels like stepping into a place that already knows you. I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, usually after a long workday downtown, and the consistency is what keeps pulling me back. Located at 37 E 4th St, Mansfield, OH 44902, United States, this diner-style restaurant sits right in the middle of the city’s everyday rhythm, making it a natural stop for locals, courthouse staff, and travelers passing through.
The menu is straightforward without being boring. You’ll see classic American comfort food alongside a few modern twists, and that balance works. One afternoon, I watched a cook prep a burger order from scratch, pressing the patty by hand and seasoning it right on the grill. That small detail matters. According to data from the National Restaurant Association, over 70% of diners say food quality and freshness are the main reasons they return to a restaurant, and City Grille clearly understands that. Their burgers, grilled sandwiches, and daily specials taste like someone actually cares how they turn out.
Breakfast here deserves its own praise. I’ve sat at the counter early in the morning, coffee in hand, listening to regulars chat with the staff like old friends. Eggs come out hot, hash browns are crisp instead of soggy, and the portions feel fair for the price. There’s a method to how they handle the breakfast rush: orders are taken quickly, cooked in sequence, and delivered without confusion. That kind of workflow doesn’t happen by accident; it comes from experience and repetition.
Lunch and dinner lean into hearty, satisfying dishes. The grilled chicken sandwich is a standout, especially when paired with fries that are cooked to order. I once overheard a server explain to a first-time visitor that they change fryer oil on a strict schedule to keep flavors clean. That lines up with food safety guidance from organizations like the FDA, which stresses proper oil management to maintain taste and quality. It’s reassuring to know those standards are taken seriously behind the scenes.
Reviews around town often mention the staff, and for good reason. Service here is relaxed but attentive. You’re not rushed, yet you’re never forgotten. During one busy Friday, my order took a little longer than usual, and the server checked in twice, explaining the delay honestly. That kind of transparency builds trust, and it’s something many diners say they value more than speed alone.
The location also plays a big role in the restaurant’s appeal. Being downtown makes City Grille an easy meeting spot, whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a longer meal. Parking nearby is manageable, and the surrounding area adds to the charm rather than feeling chaotic. For Mansfield residents, it’s one of those places that quietly becomes part of your routine.
No restaurant is perfect, and the space can feel tight during peak hours. Seating fills up fast, especially on weekends, so patience helps. Still, that crowd is a sign of something done right. When people willingly wait, it usually means the food and experience are worth it.
Overall, City Grille delivers what many diners are looking for: reliable meals, friendly faces, and a menu that doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. It’s a place built on real cooking, steady processes, and genuine connection with the community, and that’s why it continues to earn positive reviews from both locals and visitors alike.

Overall everything about this place was 5 stars. The food, the service, and the pricing tops it off. Definitely a must go if you're going through Mansfield around lunch or dinner time!
Really cool spot... Had a grilled chicken salad, potstickers and Mac and cheese bites... Very reasonably priced and very friendly staff.
While on a day trip to Mansfield to see the carousel we were hungry and wanted a bite to eat. We asked the guy running the carousel where was the best place to eat at in town and he recommended this place. We sat at the bar and ended up both getting the pierogi’s and kielbasa. The food was delicious! Definitely a must try for anyone who wants good cooking!!
I was immediately greeted and seated upon entering. The staff was friendly and helpful. I ordered the hamburger with pepper jack cheese and fries. The burger was fantastic. Prepared wonderfully and both orders came out in a little under ten minutes. A little expensive but I'd say good value for what you get. The atmosphere was not bad but nothing amazing either.
The service was a bit slow but very pleasant. The food was great! It was pizza night so those were on special. Only six bucks for a ten inch - one heck of a delicious deal! The place wasn’t too crowded and we were able to park right out front. The menu had plenty of options - even for vegetarians. The drink menu was great too. Our waiter was very attentive and polite. This was a great stop for dinner on our way from Columbus to Cleveland. It was a bit off the highway but worth it. Would definitely go again.
